Michael J. Fox shares his thoughts on how Hollywood has modified over the a long time.
In a recent interview with People magazineEmmy Award-winning actor who rose to fame in the Nineteen Eighties together with his roles in movies Palmerstown USA, Night Court, Family ties AND Back to the futurehe compared the current entertainment industry to when he began.
“There is a phrase I discussed after I was presented with an honorary Academy Award. “Someone told me the day before that they were talking about winning this award and being famous, and he said, ‘You’re famous in the ’80s,'” Fox recalled. “I believed, wow, great. Famous from the 80s. It’s true, we were different.”
He added: “We were tougher. We didn’t have social media, we didn’t have any of that crap. We were just famous. Left to their own devices. And it was an amazing time.”
The Spinning city the alum was later asked if he thought becoming famous back then was “harder” than it’s now. “Well, you had to have talent. It helped,” he said in response.
“We used to work our butts off, flex our acting muscles, watch other actors, hang out with other actors, talk about acting and talk about it,” Fox continued. “And now you have people saying, who is your sweater? What kind of sweater are you wearing? And what dance step is this? And you are the most famous person in the world.”
Fox left his screen profession in 2020 after opening up about his struggles with memory and recalling lines of dialogue related to his battle with Parkinson’s disease. However, he said Entertainment tonight earlier this month that he isn’t entirely against taking up one other acting role, “if something comes along that can represent my reality – my challenges – if I can figure it out.”
The Back to the Future, Part II the actor added this while filming his 2023 Apple TV+ documentary Still “it just happened” and ended with “a great thrill,” so “if someone offers me a role and I do it and have fun, great.”
