Even though Zack Snyder has been divisive throughout his decade and changes in film, the writer-director at all times stands by his projects. This even extends to Sucking Punch, the 2011 film which may be Snyder’s most mocked yet. It is no less than the director’s lowest grossing and lowest rated film. It’s not without its merits, and it’s gained a cult following 12 years later, but even Snyder regrets the ultimate cut of the film.
“Sucking Punch “might be essentially the most obvious example of straight, clean satire that I’ve done,” Snyder said in a recent interview with Total movie. “And I still don’t think I went far enough because a lot of people thought it was just a movie about scantily clad girls dancing in a brothel.”
Sucking Punch follows Baby Doll (Emily Browning), a psychiatric patient who encourages a group of prisoners to make a daring escape. Her fight for survival takes place in her head and takes the form of hyperrealistic samurai duels and battles with Nazi zombies. Little of the film should actually be taken literally, but much of it was lost in translation anyway. It didn’t help that in Snyder’s fight for a budget worthy of his vision, he had to compromise on things Sucker Punch Rated R and the film’s hazy ending.
Snyder describes experience as “the primary time I used to be really faced with a real, radical overhaul of a film to make it more industrial.” But despite all his regrets about how it all turned out, not all hope was lost. Snyder is currently in talks to create it Sucking Punch director’s cut that would return it to its “super controversial” R-rated ideal. But it won’t just be a shortened version of the 2011 film: if Snyder has his way, he could shoot new material with the original actors to bring the intended message to life.
In a conversation with Reciprocal promote your latest film, Rebel MoonSnyder revealed that a Sucking Punch The director’s cut is on the table. “I’m working with Warner Bros. to seek out a window to come back back to,” he said. “Even though we did an extended cut, it’s not a fully realized film.”
Like the infamous Snyder Cut of Justice Leaguein which Snyder received another $70 million to shoot and edit additional footage, the filmmaker hopes to reassemble the team to reshoot Sucker Punch final scenes. “I believe it’s good [if] I can get these guys, Emily [Browning] and Abby [Cornish] and the crew back,” he said. “Some replays would be amazing.”
While this prospect could also be exciting for fans, there continues to be a long technique to go. Warner Bros. would need to honor Snyder’s request first, and the director would have to seek out time to reassemble the forged. Despite this, the studio has already indulged Snyder. Sucking Punch a reassessment is long overdue, and a fully realized version of this story can only help.
