What has Mike White teased about Season 3?
Answer: Not much!
Both seasons open with a shot of an unidentified corpse, establishing a mystery in the background that drives the comic satire through its story on class and relationships. The first season focused on money and other sex, and creator Mike White has said that the third season will be “a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality”. Something that feels like “a rich tapestry” for another spin at White Lotus.
When the second season ended, White said he might be willing to give viewers more answers from the finale, specifically regarding Tanya’s husband Greg (Jon Graves) and his involvement in the tragic ending. In a later feature with him, he talked about revisiting other characters (before Rothwell’s announcement), the show’s focus from limited series to drama and why he might not have season three as someone else. Do not open with a dead body.
“It would be easy to just be a full anthology, but I think it’s more fun to have little threads through the show. If the show lasts a couple of seasons, it would be fun to have an All-Star season,” he said. “I don’t think it always needs to be a body. [opening the show]. There are so many ways we want to reinvent the show every year. Like, what is this show – other than people? A fresh mystery, people probably expect it. But I don’t feel constrained by expectations. It’s fun.”
Coolidge added: “Mike must have some juicy stuff [Rothwell’s character]. I think that would be the most interesting storyline: whatever happened to Natasha’s character. But, yeah, I also want to see Greg get it.
With the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike over and his scripts nearing completion, White said That season three will be “a supersized one” – something the cast announced coming out: “It’s going to be long, big, crazy. I don’t know what people will think, but I’m very excited, so Kim At least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing … I’m very excited about the content of the season.”
