Apple went and announced its spring event on May 7 at 7:00 PT/10:00 ET. Although the corporate didn’t say what the event was about, the Apple Pencil in its graphics suggests that we are going to finally hear about recent iPads – but which of them? Well, almost definitely the OLED iPad Pro we have been hearing about for months, but the corporate could also announce a brand new iPad Air in two sizes for the primary time.
There have also been rumors over the past few months a few recent Apple Pencil and updated Magic Keyboard accessories that may give iPad Pro owners a more laptop-like experience. Because more accessories are all an iPad needs, right? It doesn’t seem likely that there will likely be an update to the vanilla Tenth-generation iPad or iPad Mini just yet, so all eyes will likely be on what Apple plans to do with its next iPad Pro.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has repeatedly called it probably the most significant overhaul in years, but it surely’s not entirely clear how significant the change will likely be. Both models will likely get OLED screens, which is unbelievable for me – someone who just doesn’t desire a 13-inch iPad Pro but is a bit of grumpy in regards to the low contrast of the 11-inch model.
Apple could also move the iPad Pro’s front camera to the long side prefer it did with the Tenth-generation iPad refresh, which I believe is an absolute must, and it should likely get the M3 chip present in Apple’s latest collection of iPad computers.
Since 2018 – the 12 months the iPhone XS was released – we have been living with essentially the identical iPad Pro design. It’s a fantastic design that brings a whole lot of recent things to the tablet line: USB-C, for instance, and a sleek recent Apple Pencil that magnetically attaches to the side for charging and pairing. It even added Face ID, which for some reason still is not available on other iPads (not to mention the corporate’s laptops!).
I’m excited to see what this redesign brings, but I’m still having a tough time understanding what the iPad Pro is definitely intended for and for whom. It’s a unbelievable tablet! But it also seems to still be dragging its feet on the legacy of iOS, occasionally dressing up as macOS without knowing where its strengths lie. And if it truly is only a nicer screen, it is probably not enough to enliven the road. After all, when you do away with the great screen and properly placed selfie camera, you are still just using the iPad.
This, but greater? Photo: Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge
Apple may even likely introduce the iPad Air in 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions, mirroring today’s iPad Pro lineup. There are rumors that it should use the identical Magic Keyboard accessories as the present iPad Pros.
The recent iPad Air will likely also get a brand new M2 processor, which is sensible, but will likely be completely irrelevant to most individuals because the M1 chip in the present iPad Air still looks like overkill. (Not that anyone is complaining.) It can also have the front camera moved to the long edge, just like the iPad Pro.
But the most important and most vital change is the screen size. Right now, if you happen to desire a large iPad, you are planning to spend not less than $1,200 on a brand recent iPad Pro – that is a tough sell if screen size is an important thing to you, and the larger Air will make things easier.

There could also be a brand new, more durable Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro, product of aluminum and equipped with a bigger trackpad. There would still be the soft material from the present Magic Keyboard for iPad underneath the keyboard. Unfortunately, it should still only have a single USB-C port, but hey, perhaps it should delay higher than the present ones over time, apparently for some people.

Like the iPad Pro, the Apple Pencil hasn’t been updated since 2018 (unless you count the Apple Pencil with USB-C, which in fact). There are rumors that it can have interchangeable magnetic suggestions for various purposes and that it might support a brand new squeeze gesture.
