President-elect Donald Trump has made several promises to “one day” include ending President Biden’s AI policies. While we’re not exactly sure if Trump will take action on his first day in office in January, it’s clear that tech regulation change is on the way.
Today, on TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, hosts Kirsten Korosec, Devin Coldewey and Margaux MacColl discuss what Trump’s win means for advancing AI policy and innovation.
While AI always makes a cameo at Equity, there was a lot of startup and venture news for Equity staff this week. Listen to the full episode to hear about it:
- OpenAI’s acquisition of Chat.com, the domain previously acquired by HubSpot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah. We’re not sure if this signals a brand change for the AI startup, but users’ journeys to ChatGPT are just three letters shorter.
- Deeproot’s $100 million raise and the startup’s race to get its automated systems in place before the Tesla FSD is available in China.
- Biotech startup Arkin’s $20 million effort to bolster drug development with its “antibody cages.” Of course, we couldn’t talk about the news without Devin’s biochemistry lesson, which taught us a new scientific term: cheeses.
- Google’s new AI-focused data center and collaboration with the Saudi Public Investment Fund. The move forced the team to think more about the climate commitments of tech at large, and who is backing away from their commitments in favor of AI.
- Electoral bidding sped up — from Polymarket to Kalshi and a potential $450 million payout.
Equity returns next week with an exclusive interview between TechCrunch Senior Editor Julie Burt and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. Stay tuned!
