Tom Hanks reveals an age he would never choose to be again.
the actor was asked recently. “Fun Tonight” If he has portrayed a certain age in his new film “Here” that he wants to relive.
“No, look, I’m 68 years old. The hardest time for us was when we were playing 35,” Hanks said of working on the film. Gravity starts to tear you apart, your bones start to break, you stand differently. I think I’m in better shape now.”
After the outlet pointed out that he “looks great,” Hanks explained why.
“Since my kids are grown, I’m exercising well and I can eat right. You can’t do that when you’re 35. Life is a burden!”
An “ET” reporter quipped that everyone should follow Hanks’ plan, but Hanks dismissed it, saying: “Man, I’m just doing what I’m 68 years old, type 2 diabetes … just Keeping the temple, baby, that’s all I’m trying to do.”
Interestingly, Hanks worked on three projects in 1991 at the age of 35, including his memorable role as Jimmy Duggan in 1992’s A League of Their Own. The following year, he starred opposite Meg Ryan in “Sleepless in Seattle.”
Thirty years after Hanks’ iconic role in “Forrest Gump,” the Oscar winner is now reunited with that film’s director, Robert Zemeckis, and “Here” co-star Robin Wright.
The film is based on the story of Richard (Hanks) and Margaret (Wright), who live in the same house over the course of a century.
“A perspective never changes, but everything around it does,” Zemeckis told Vanity Fair of the project. “It had never actually been done before. There were similar scenes in very early silent films before the language of montage was invented. But other than that, yes, it was a risky venture.”
Both are shown in their older years, in their 20s and 30s, aided by the effects of youth.
“It only works because the performances are so good,” the director continued. “Both Tom and Robin immediately realized, ‘OK, we’ve got to go back and bring that kind of energy, that kind of posture, and even to what we were 50 years ago or 40 years ago. That we have to raise our voices.’ That kind of thing.”
According to the synopsis, Paul Bettany plays Richard’s father and the film “travels through the generations, capturing the human experience in its purest form”. It is “a story of love, loss, laughter and life, all happening ‘here’.”
Richard, who aspires to be an artist, is overshadowed by his responsibilities as a husband and father in the 1970s and 80s.
Meanwhile, Margaret senses a ticking clock, and urges Richard to break free and explore the world.
“I think the movie speaks to the truth that we have to accept that everything changes,” Zemeckis explained. “Where we get into trouble is when we resist this fact of life, and then we get lost and miss opportunities.”
“Here” will hit theaters on Friday.
