Archipelago Yachts is growing bigger than ever.
The British shipyard has just unveiled a new 80-foot model that will become the flagship of the fleet upon launch. Just named Peninsula 80the Explorer catamaran will allow sailors to reach the farthest reaches in style.
The first hull is being built for a “visionary owner,” according to Archipelago founder Stephen Weatherly, who shares the yard’s “passion for pushing the boundaries of sailing.” The innovative Chartwell Marine is based on the multihull that has been widely used in the offshore wind industry and offers greater stability than traditional monohulls.

The cat is also equipped with a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system that ensures a maximum speed of 30 knots at full tilt. If that’s not enough, an optional generator can provide an additional 180 kW of power. In addition, a paravane kite can be added to the vessel to reduce overall fuel consumption and possibly increase speed.
“This model represents the ultimate versatility in a sub-79-foot, owner-operator platform, and symbolizes our commitment to providing exceptional experiences on the water,” Weatherly said in a statement. “I am excited to see this project brought to life and welcome the customer on board for some unforgettable journeys at sea.”
Inside, the open-plan main salon is adorned with a bar, a day galley, and expansive windows offering beautiful views. Two hulls are the domestic guest accommodation for 12, the main galley and crew quarters, while the wheelhouse serves as a versatile entertainment space with another bar and alfresco seating. You can also choose to add a hot tub to the shaded balcony of the wheelhouse.

The 80 has plenty of exterior decks for its length. The aft cockpit surrounds a large “work area” that can store tenders, toys, or expedition equipment. A built-in crane can move a 20-foot ISO container or personal sub, for example. Alternatively, the backyard can be used for outdoor entertaining or other activities such as fishing.
To top it off, literally, the 80 has a rooftop helipad that can facilitate getting in and out of the ocean. If you want to generate additional green energy, the roof can also be covered with solar panels.
A Starfleet member, indeed.
