My devices have a hard life, and perhaps no device has a harder time than my iPhone. This thing has been dropped more times than I can remember, but the other day it took a pretty bad drop on the rocks, and a screen protector that had been on for about a year finally broke.
The iPhone survived but the screen protector was badly broken. It was time to change that.
I thought this would be a good opportunity to test the new screen protectors that make it easier to fit the screen. These screens not only make it easier to align the screen protector, but also eliminate the problem of dirt and dust getting stuck underneath during the process.
First, let me answer a question I get asked a lot — is a screen protector still necessary?
Yes, I think it is. I see smartphones covered in scratches and chips, and broken displays are common. While a screen protector won’t protect your display from damage, it does help ward off some of the nasty effects that might otherwise damage the screen.
So, I think screen protectors are still worth fitting. And as it happens, I have. A large number of guards Which is considered easy to fit.
The good news is that these screen protectors not only stay perfectly aligned and move on without unsightly trapped air bubbles, they also have a ‘dust elimination’ feature which means that the display can be cleaned before you put it on. is cleaned, so no unsightly dust gets sandwiched. Between the display and the screen protector.
Moreover, after testing several screen protector kits, I have to say that they are so easy to fit that I could do it with my eyes closed. I have tested kits for this. iPhone 14, iPhone 15and even earlier iPhones, such as iPhone 11 and X.
The application process is simple. I start by removing my iPhone from its case, removing the cracked screen protector, and cleaning the device with some alcohol wipes. Many kits come with a wipe, but I like to start by giving the smartphone a wipe to remove all the dirt.

Next, I take the screen protector kit out of the box and quickly read the instructions.

The kit even came with protectors for the camera lens.

I pop the iPhone into the provided frame, and quickly wipe the screen clean, giving the alcohol a moment to dry.

Next, I close the alignment frame, making sure the tab sticks to the bottom.

With the frame snapshot, I give the tab a firm tug, and the process simultaneously pulls the dust eliminator strip over the display and applies the screen protector.

Next, I press the marked area on the frame to allow the screen protector to adhere to the display.

Now, I open the frame and take a look at the work. I have a few small air bubbles, but I can deal with those using the application tool.

The end result is perfect. The application process was so easy that I can no longer imagine using old-style screen protectors, where I had to manually remove dust and hope that no more dust would get on the display before applying the protector. If you’ve struggled to apply screen protectors in the past, I strongly recommend it. Try them out.
