On Helium.comThe company’s website for the Web3 startup, under the heading “HELIUM IS USED BY” had a total of 14 logos, but today there are only 12 such logos. The missing logos of cloud-based software company Salesforce and e-scooter rental giant Lime were both mentioned in a report Friday by Mashable’s Matt Binder.
The status of Helium’s partnership with Lime was thrown into serious doubt when Lime’s senior director of communications Russell Murphy told Mashable, “After initial testing of their products in 2019, Lime has no relationship with Helium. Lyme indicated that as of Friday he was drafting a cease-and-desist letter to Helium.
In a statement to Mashable, Helium’s parent company Nova Labs acknowledged Friday that Lime and Helium had parted ways after 2019 product tests. “Lime has been restructured and the team members we worked with are no longer employed there,” the statement said.
Lyme’s perceived status as a client was not insignificant, but part of what appeared to be the core of Helium’s marketing pitch. Helium bills itself as a decentralized network of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, able to provide its own connectivity where existing Internet service providers cannot or cannot do so. Helium’s hardware is, in a sense, only as good as the network of users that keep it working—except there’s a bonus value proposition: Every time the network is used, the devices earn a cryptocurrency, $ They also mine HNT. And as long as the big tech companies are customers, in theory, there will be plenty of crypto to be mined.
In a ___ The New York Times Story Since February, the use of the helium network by Lyme has been presented as proof that helium is “a real product that real people and companies use every day.” in justice, Times The story also notes that helium is also used by the Victor Mousetrap Company — apparently for its line of IoT-enabled mousetraps — and the fact of that partnership does not appear to be in dispute at this time.
However, as of yesterday, Salesforce, another company associated with a logo that is now missing from Helium.com (and the site’s “EnterprisePage also) had not publicly commented on his relationship with Helium.
Update: August 2, 2022, 10:25 a.m. ET. A spokesman for Helium issued the following statement: “Since the network launched in 2019, we have worked with a number of companies on various applications and pilots. In the case of brands mentioned in recent articles, we had approval to discuss use cases. But to avoid any confusion we have now tightened the logo approval process so that Nova and our partner the Helium Foundation have removed the reference.”
August 2, 2022, 10:25 am ET. Salesforce spokesperson Eddie McGrath made the following statement: “Helium is not and never has been a Salesforce partner.”
