DC Studios is wasting no time in setting a release date now that the film has found its director.
DC and Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday that the high-profile film will hit theaters on June 26, 2026. It is the second film to receive a release date since James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought in to overhaul DC under the new banner DC Studios. was the first, which Gunn is currently shooting for a July 2025 release date.
Filmmaker Craig Gillespie has been tapped by Gunn and Safran for Shepherd, starring Millie Alcock (). She will play Superman’s Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. The feature is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic, and will take seriously the character audiences have come to know from the CW series.
According to insiders, the plan is to start shooting this fall. A Batman film feature is also in the works from director Andy Mishetti at DC Studios.
In addition, Warner Bros. announced a handful of other dates for some of its high-profile films, including New Lines, which will hit theaters on October 24, 2025. Newline’s sci-fi thriller will kick off the year and open. On 10 January 2025.
The picture is produced by Zach Cregger with Raphael Margules and BoulderLight Pictures’ JD Lifshitz and Vertigo’s Roy Lee, with Drew Hancock directing. The Moverick Horror team is also behind the film, which will release on January 16, 2026. Krieger is directing this film.
Warners also announced a release date for the animated holiday pic, which is slated to open on November 5, 2027. Melissa McCarthy voices the title role and is producing alongside Ben Falcone and Pilar Flynn.
