At the beginning of April, Dr. Nielsen topped the streaming ratings.
Medical dramas and were the top two titles for the week of April 1-7, finishing with 1.18 billion and 1.15 billion minutes of viewing time (both streamed on Hulu and Netflix). That actually slipped a bit from last week’s 1.48 billion minutes, which was good for second overall, but the show ahead of it — Netflix’s — fell further. The sci-fi series dropped nearly 47 percent to 937 million minutes watched.
Disney’s animated movie had its streaming premiere on April 3 and racked up 1.02 billion minutes of watch time in its first five days on Disney+. It’s the first movie on Disney+ to hit the billion-minute mark since doing so in September 2023. (1.08 billion minutes) also surpassed the 1 billion mark for Disney+.
The Netflix documentary opened its chart with 683 million minutes watched, making it the top original series premiere for the week. Critically acclaimed, it was watched by 510 million minutes in its first four days. Among the top 10 earned series, (663 million minutes), (646 million) and (630 million) all made their first appearances following Nielsen’s change to the streaming content rankings (which form the basis of the top 10 rankings). As a result, more programs are being tracked. Nielsen said they were previously excluded due to “business deals that were prior to classification” and some technical issues.
Nielsen’s streaming ratings only cover viewing on TV sets and do not include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure US audiences, not those in other countries. Below are the top streaming titles for April 1-7, 2024.
