Bill Maher spent a while on the New Rules episode. Real time Friday to supply their takeaways from Silence on the set: The dark side of kids’s television documentaries.
“As one of the few public figures who has gone through life and never had children, someone needs to tell me why I always have to defend them,” the host said. “I don’t even like them, but I think it’s every adult’s duty to protect them.”
His initial response to the five-part Investigation Discovery documentary, which detailed allegations of harassment, sexism, racism and inappropriate behavior involving underage actors on the set of Nickelodeon television shows, was: “Oh my God!”
“Nickelodeon? It wasn’t a studio, it was a Neverland ranch offering craft services,” he told Network about his image after watching the series. “It’s just scene after scene, clip and clip, of contemporary child stars being subjected to clearly inappropriate, highly sexual degradation. …I was disgusted and went camping with John Waters.”
Maher began to note Quiet on set, which he said was the talk of the town of Los Angeles, not only exposed an “unsafe workplace” but in addition “hypocrisy.” As an example, he cited that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was “fired” when he said the identical thing about Disney’s actions.
“Why would a children’s content factory like Disney be completely different than Nickelodeon,” Maher asked, referring to Willie Sutton’s quote about robbing banks “because that’s where the money is.”
“The reason we find pedophiles… on children’s television is because there are children there,” the host continued. “DeSantis wasn’t wrong. We are so tribal now that the left will support child fucking if the wrong party reports it.”
Later, Maher told how Brian Peck – convicted of sexual assault in 2004. Drake and Josh documentary star Drake Bell – after serving his sentence, he was hired by Disney to work on a kid’s series. (Hollywood reporter We previously reported that Peck voiced the role of a mirror in three episodes of the series Zack and Cody’s apartment life for Disney Channel and worked outside the set of the series, in a voice-over studio. THR also learned that Disney had fired him immediately upon learning of his conviction).
“After all, it’s a small world for pedophiles in Hollywood,” Maher added.
The host also sharply criticized moms on Instagram who “practically only fan” their young daughters with a view to “build fame in society”, and Drag Queen Story Hours. “Not that there’s anything wrong with being a drag queen,” he said. “But maybe it’s time to admit that sometimes Drag Queen Story Hour is more for the queen than the kids.”
Maher noted that he cannot just pretend that certain things are cool “to keep my liberal ID.”
“Awakening is no longer an extension of liberalism. More often than not, the opposite happens,” he explained. “I teach children not to hate or judge others. “Great, proud to have made it there.” All for this. But in some unspecified time in the future inclusion becomes promotion.”
The guests appeared in the most recent episode Real time included Jillian Michaels, Jon Meacham and Jane Ferguson.
