Shailene Woodley didn’t initially realize that her mother was actually an ’80s teen icon.
The actress recently revealed during an appearance. “Scene Selection” that she didn’t know who Molly Ringwald was when they first started working together on the ABC Family drama, which ran from 2008 to 2013.
“I didn’t know who Molly Ringwald was,” Woodley admitted. “I was 15, didn’t grow up with TV. Like, every friend of my parents was like, ‘You’re working with Molly Ringwald!’ And I was like, ‘What is that… why? I don’t understand.’ Because I haven’t seen or watched any of his movies.
However, the actress said that she never saw any of the films by director John Hughes that launched Ringwald to stardom as a teenager, in fact eventually worked.
“I know her as, like, a beautiful big sister mother figure, who really protected the dignity of, like, my integrity as a young person and who I was and just, like, a kid playing kid Woodley. explained, “He protected me like that and I’m so grateful for that because there’s so much pressure on people to grow up, especially when it comes to Hollywood.”
The star added that she “learned a lot” while acting at a young age, including storytelling and “the kinds of messages that I want to put out into the world or maybe not put out into the world.”
While Ringwald was already popular once it premiered, this was Woodley’s first starring role on a TV show.
