Seth Meyers isn’t going anywhere.
The host has extended its deal with NBCUniversal through 2028, the company announced Monday. Meyers, who bashed the network (among others) during NBCU’s upfront presentation Monday morning, will remain host until 2028. Additionally, Meyers’ Sethmaker Shoemeyers production company has extended its contract with Universal Studios Group and will continue to create and develop scripted and unscripted. Programming for a company-wide portfolio.
“Over the past 10 years, Seth has resonated with his audience night after night with a sharp monologue and established segments like this,” said Katie Hawkmeyer, executive VP of late-night programming at NBCUniversal Entertainment. “We are thrilled to continue this legacy franchise with Seth at the helm and watch him build on its success.”
Meyers and NBC recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of hosting Meyers, which originally debuted on February 24, 2014. The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studios Group, and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video. Michaels and Mike Shoemaker exec produce the series, which airs the following day on Peacock.
Meyers’ decision to stay on comes after her name, along with fellow alumnus Tina Fey, has been bandied about as a possible replacement for Michaels on the veteran sketch comedy. Michaels has been open about overseeing his 50th anniversary special in February, but beyond that, it’s unclear how long the comedy kingpin will stay with the series.
In terms of the late-night spot, Meyers’ new deal comes after Jimmy Kimmel renewed his deal with Disney for a 23rd season at ABC. CBS’s Stephen Colbert has extended his deal with the Paramount Global-backed network to last through 2026. Other late-night hosts, including HBO’s John Oliver and Bill Maher, have also recently extended their respective deals.
The news comes as CBS replaces James Corden with an updated version and the late-night space has seen a shrinking after cable networks and streamers also pulled out of the prized genre.
