Greg Berlanti and Netflix are going for a ride in the Mystery Machine.
The streaming giant is close to a deal for a live-action TV series based on the beloved Hanna-Barbera animated cartoon. Scooby-doo. The project has a script-to-series commitment at Netflix, meaning if the script is well-received, it will trigger a straight-to-series order for the live-action update of the classic cartoon.
Representatives for Netflix, producer Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions declined to comment, as no deal has yet been formally closed.
Josh Applebaum and Scott Rosenberg – who previously adapted. Cowboy Bebop For Netflix and more High sincerity for Hulu — penned scripts and executive produced by Andre Nemec and Jeff Pinkner of their Midnight Radio banner. Berlanti and his Berlanti production partner Sarah Schechter will produce alongside the company’s Lee London Redman. Jonathan Gabe of Brillanti Productions and Adrian Erickson of Midnight Radio will be credited as co-executive producers. Warner Bros. Television, where Berlanti has been based for years, is the studio because the company owns the animation studio Hanna-Barbera.
Live action dramatized Scooby-doo Warner Bros. For Midnight Radio, meanwhile, Scooby After Amazon, the production company will become the latest TV foray. The fort and MGM+’s From Company, repped by WME, previously adapted Cowboy Bebop As a live-action series from its anime origin.
