This week’s pre-Mother’s Day topper was all about the moms.
The variety show was split with its characteristic coldness that featured cast members sharing moments with their mothers.
Keenan Thompson opened the show, appearing on the Studio 8H stage with her mother because, she said, “It’s Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,” which, she announced, meant “a present. There’s still plenty of time to buy.”
“With so many disturbing stories in the world right now, we thought we’d take a break from the regular chill and hear some heartwarming stories from our moms instead.”
Still, Thompson’s mother said she wanted to see who would play Stormy Daniels in a cold open focusing on the porn star’s testimony in former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial. Other cast members who joined the mothers included Andrew Dismock, Chloe Fineman, Pinky Johnson, Mickey Day, Ego Naudem, James Austin Johnson, Bowen Yang, Colin Jost, Marcelo Hernandez and Michael Longfellow.
Day’s mom proudly calls herself “Butthead’s mom,” referring to her viral sketch from April.
For her monologue, host Maya Rudolph took the stage and explained that she was well-suited to host the pre-Mother’s Day episode, as she said, “I’m a mother four times over. My four beautiful children. There are that I know of.
She was then joined by Yang and Sarah Sherman where they hinted that the actress was more than just a mother to her children.
“You’re not just a mother,” Yang said. “You’re the mother!”

After questioning their compliment, Rudolph turns serious and blurts out, “You’re right.”
Then, introduced by Thomson’s announcer Mr. Infinity Décor, and accompanied by dancers, Rudolph struck a pose as “the mother of the Rockefeller household.”
After a few moments on stage, Rudolph took an epic walk around the set, where she earned two “10s” from the judges and an “I’m gagged” from another judge as she performed her famous mom status. rapped about
During the song she juxtaposed moments from her career and her memorable role with the duties of a traditional mother.
