The UK premiere of The OuterThis year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) will open with a Saoirse Ronan starrer, it has been announced.
In Nora Fungscheidt’s adaptation of Amy Liptrott’s best-selling memoir of the same name, Ronan’s character finds himself washed up on the Scottish islands of Orkney as he ends his life after a decade of addiction. Fighting to rebuild.
Ronan, who also co-produced the film, Fung Scheidt (System Crasher) at this year’s EIFF, with Liptrot and the film’s producers Sarah Brocklehurst and Dominic Norris, running August 15-21.
The film had its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released by Studio Canal in the UK and Ireland on September 27.
EIFF also revealed the name of its short film competition. Thelma Schoonmaker Award for Excellence in Short Filmmaking. Schoonmaker is celebrated for his outstanding work as an editor on landmark moments in cinema history and for his legendary collaboration with Martin Scorsese, including Raging Bull, goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street And Killers of the Flower Moon.
