Oh Notting Hill According to screenwriter Richard Curtis, the sequel never made it to the big screen because of Julia Roberts.
The writer of the beloved 1999 romcom recently told Indie Wire While promoting his new Netflix animated film, that christmas that Roberts was not a big fan of the sequel script, which saw her character Anna Scott divorce Hugh Grant’s character William Thacker.
When asked if he would like to do a follow-up to his past films, Curtis said, “I don’t think so. I actually did four red-nosed days and Comic Relief. We made those mini-sequels. Love actuallyand those people satisfied me,” the scriptwriter previously rejoined Love actually Cast for a short film that benefits the annual charity event.
“I tried to do one with him,” Curtis added. Notting Hill Where they were going to divorce, and Julia [Roberts] Thought it was a very poor idea.”
Notting Hill Follows famous actress Anna Scott, who falls in love with William Thacker, owner of a bookstore in a London neighborhood. However, the paparazzi’s attention with her complicates their relationship.

Earlier this month, Grant also attended a screening of the 1999 film Vanity Fairof “Scene Choice”, where he admitted that he thought his character William Thacker was “despicable”.
“Every time I’m flicking through the channels at home after a few drinks and this comes on, I just think, ‘Why doesn’t my character have any balls?'” she said at the time. “There’s a scene in the movie where he’s in my house and Pops comes to the front door and rings the bell and I think I let him pass me and open the door. It’s scary.”
“I’ve never had a girlfriend, or really my wife now, who hasn’t said, ‘Why didn’t you stop it? What’s wrong with you?'” Grant added. “And I really have that. There is no answer to – it was written that way. And I think he’s really despicable.
