Here’s how email aliases work, and why you should use them: You start by creating an alias within your email app, and then when you fill out a web form, sign You use an alias (as opposed to your real email address). For a new digital service, or to tell someone how to contact you. Any messages sent to this alias arrive in your regular inbox.
Apps and sites and web forms always ask us for email addresses, and the alias system adds a little extra security and privacy, as well as some extra control over your inbox: you can email for a specific purpose. Mail can create an alias, such as managing a football team for example, and then filter all incoming messages to that alias.
Another big advantage of using an email alias is that you can lose it at any time. If you want to stop subscribing to a streaming service, you can also retire the email address associated with it. Or if a company is sending you a lot of junk, you can simply delete the alias you gave them. If you use a different alias for everything you sign up for, you’ll also know which companies are sending you a lot of messages, and which aren’t.
