Prince William’s touching tribute to his wife Princess Kate has gone viral online after footage of his 2021 speech in Scotland resurfaced on social media site TikTok.
William and Kate’s relationship has been thrust into the public eye in recent months, as Kate underwent stomach surgery at the start of the year, before the royal announced she had been diagnosed with cancer.
Shortly after his surgery, William canceled all public appearances to support his wife’s recovery. When the princess announced her cancer on March 22, she paid her own tribute to her husband, saying: “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance.”
The couple first met in 2001 while studying at the University of St Andrews in Scotland and started dating soon after. In 2010, William proposed, and the couple married the following April at London’s Westminster Abbey.
Together, they have three children: Prince George, 10; Princess Charlotte, 8; and Prince Louis, 5. The couple will celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary on April 29 this year.
Uploaded to TikTok by user @brunettecatherine on March 20, The footage William’s speech to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2021 has gone viral. In it, he discusses how Scotland means to him, both with his late mother Princess Diana, but also with Kate.
William said, “Scotland is the source of my happiest memories, but also of my saddest. I was at Balmoral when I was told my mother had died.
“Still in shock, I found refuge in service at Chrithy Kirk [church] same morning And in the dark days of grief that followed, I found peace and comfort outside of Scotland. As a result, the connection I feel to Scotland will forever be deep.
“And yet alongside this painful memory, there is a great joy,” William said, referring to his wife’s touching quote.
“Because it was in Scotland — 20 years ago this year — that I first met Catherine. Needless to say, the city where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart. ”
The video has so far been viewed 657,000 times on the social media site, with more than 56,000 likes and more than 200 comments, many of which praised both William and Kate.
“Poor man has done a lot,” wrote one Tik Tok user of Prince.
“He was sent to her. They are soul mates,” another of the couple wrote, adding: “Tough times… produce strong people.”
