According to friends of the monarch, King Charles III offered Prince Harry a stay at a royal residence while the duke was in the UK.
However, Harry, 39, reportedly declined his father’s invitation and instead stayed in a hotel during the three-day trip.
Charles’ friends said The Sunday Times That the monarch, 75, wanted to let his youngest son enjoy royal residence in London, where Harry visited last week to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
Friends claimed it would be “easier” for them to see Charles in the midst of their estranged relationship if Harry stayed in the royal residence.
But sources close to Harry alleged that Charles chose not to visit his son during the trip – which Charles’ friends claim is false.
“It’s all very sad,” a friend of the king told The Sunday Times. He certainly agreed to see his son at the critical moment of his illness, and at short notice.”
The friend continued, “While he was barely on the red carpet when the Invictus trip was announced, doctors advised him to focus on his treatment and recovery, believing that he had refused to find space in his diary.” Well, let’s say that memories may differ once again.
On the other hand, a friend of Harry’s insisted that the Duke of Sussex requested to meet his father well ahead of his trip to the country of his birth.
“I can’t imagine that the request went through a vacuum. Even if he didn’t get a request, which I don’t believe he did, couldn’t His Excellency have requested to see his son? That would be widely known.” Knew he was coming,” said the friend.
Harry’s friends, who reportedly spent time with him in London, claimed that Harry was “stung a lot” by not seeing Charles.
“It surprises me a lot. I was really hoping to meet him. I know he wanted to be the one and I don’t know when he will come,” said a friend.
The monarch hosted a garden party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday – her first since the cancer diagnosis – for around 8,000 guests.
At the same time — just 2.6 miles away — Harry taught at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to mark a decade since the inaugural Invictus Games were held in the capital.
After arriving in London on Tuesday, Harry left the capital on Thursday afternoon and flew to Nigeria where he was reunited with his wife Meghan Markle.
The father-of-two also did not see his brother Prince William and cancer-stricken sister-in-law Kate Middleton while he was in the UK.
Harry has been estranged from his family since leaving his royal duties in 2020 and moving to California.
However, she met Charles after learning her father had cancer in February.
