Instead of the previous six matches against three teams played on a home-and-away basis, each club will now be guaranteed a minimum of eight league stage games against eight different opponents (four home games, four away).
The top eight teams in the league will automatically qualify for the knockout stages, while the ninth to 24th placed teams will compete in a two-legged play-off to advance to the last 16 of the competition.
Teams ranked 25-36 are eliminated from all competitions.

Similar changes will be made to the Europa League and Europa Conference League formats, each with 36 teams.
Europa League teams will have eight matches against eight different opponents in the league stage.
In the Europa Conference League – renamed the UEFA Conference League – teams will play six matches against six different opponents in the league stage. The UEFA Conference League games will be played between September and December.
The knockout stages of the competition will run through the second half of the season and conclude at the end of the campaign, as they do now.
