Carlos Watson, co-founder of Ozzy Media, who faces 37 years in prison after being convicted of fraud in July, is the subject of a documentary examining his case.
Directed by filmmakers Candace Connelly and Brennie Perkins, The disturbing case of Carlos Watson: whose son is next? It will launch on YouTube on Tuesday ahead of next month’s sentencing. The document details the case that saw Watson and Ozzy Media convicted by a federal jury on July 16 of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, with Watson also convicted of identity theft.

The footage also shows that US District Judge Eric Comity had hedge fund investments in four companies alleged to have been affected by the fraud case. Watson’s lawyer said in a motion filed last month that the judge should have recused himself from the case.
Among those speaking up for the Doctor is juror No. 5 in Watson’s trial, who says in a new interview teased in the trailer, “I just feel like there’s a real injustice that’s been done, and I feel like I’m I’m part of.”
A Watson supporter added in the trailer, “He deserves a fair trial. We need our brother.”
Watson is a journalist and television host who launched the media company Ozzy Media in September 2013 with co-founder Sameer Rao. Watson previously worked as an MSNBC anchor and CNN contributor and hosted an interview program. The Carlos Watson Show On YouTube
Ozzy, known for its site featuring news and culture snippets, has since shut down in 2021. The New York Times reporting that Rao impersonated a YouTube executive during a fundraising call with Goldman Sachs.
During the trial, prosecutors alleged that Watson provided false details about Ozzy’s finances and traffic numbers, as well as fabricated contracts and misleading earnings projections. Watson, who pleaded not guilty, faces a maximum of 37 years in prison, with sentencing set for Dec. 13. Rao and Chief of Staff Suzy Han pleaded guilty and testified for the prosecution.
