Nottingham Forest say they’re “considering their options” over the referee’s “extremely poor” decisions. 2-0 defeat to Everton.
The club said that they had “notified” the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL) that “VAR is Luton’s fan but they have not changed it”.
“Three very poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept,” the club said.
“Our patience has been tested many times.”
Although they didn’t name the official, the video assistant referee was Stuart Atwell.
Nottingham Forest issued a highly critical post on the social network on Sunday at 15:42 BST, around five minutes after full-time in the match at Goodison Park – which left the club some extent above the relegation zone.
Asked in regards to the club’s post, Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo said it was “not important if he [Attwell] A fan of another club”.
He added: “I share the club’s feeling because isn’t it just this game. It’s been a while since we’ve had bad decisions against us. It’s not an excuse but we’re not happy with the way the club is doing. Referees.”
BBC Sport has contacted referees’ board PGML for comment, and understands the Football Association is aware of the post and is investigating.
‘I do not understand the choice’ – what happened to the forest in anger?
All three penalty claims centered on incidents involving Everton’s veteran ex-England defender Ashley Young.
Forest felt he was caught attempting to tackle the back of Gio Reina’s boot when the sport was goalless.
Then, late in the primary half, after Everton had taken the lead, Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross was on Young’s arm.
The third incident got here after the break, with the Toffees still 1-0 up, as Young tangled with Hudson-Odoi in the realm however the officials ruled he had won the ball cleanly.
“I don’t understand the reason and the decision. [referee] Anthony Taylor and VAR Stuart Atwell, because I’m looking at the pictures,” Nuno told Sky Sports.
“It’s hard to take. There’s a penalty on Gio Reina, it’s a kick, don’t tell me there’s no contact. It’s a penalty, then a handball, then the situation with Callum.
“So it’s comprehensible that we react like this as a club because we would like to get things right. We don’t need bad referees. We want good decisions.
“Well, if we lose the game today and there’s no incident, we’ll take it.”
‘A hat-trick of howlers’ – says Clattenburg.
The Daily Mail website published a column on Sunday night by Mark Clattenburg, the retired referee who’s Forest’s referee analyst, defending the club’s response.
He wrote: “One of those mistakes would have been bad enough. Three was a joke, and that’s why Nottingham Forest felt like victims after another defeat in which zero big decisions went their way.
“In a season where they’ve needed to endure some great refereeing, this trip to Everton was as serious a game as they’ve faced since their return to the Premier League.
“These conditions were exactly the same since video technology was introduced to the Premier League and yet, Atwell did not send Taylor to his monitor, not once. It was a hat-trick of howlers from the refereeing team. And unfortunately for Forrest, there has been an unfair trend that has hindered their fight for survival.
“You can have seen the statement issued by the club – how PGMOL was contacted to warn that it was not appropriate for a Luton fan like Atwell to be at an enormous match. Play such a crucial role that it affects the relegation race.”
How did we get here?
In August, the forest Filed a criticism With PGMOL on the performance of the officials in the 3-2 defeat at Manchester United.
Then in March, Clattenburg Criticized on responsibility. In the build-up to Liverpool’s dramatic winner at the City Ground.
Jungle still hopes to get some respite. By their appeal Against deduction of four points for violation of profitability and sustainability rules.
BBC Radio 5 Live’s football correspondent John Murray said: “Mark Clattenburg was once considered the most effective referee we have had in this country, now he’s got a job with Nottingham Forest – you think that That they’d be heavily involved.
“So Nottingham Forest will be confident with the statement they’re making, but I still think it’s a remarkable thing to say.
“Fa, Howard Webb and PGMOL – this can definitely ruffle their feathers. What they should say about that is the following step.”
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy told the BBC’s Match of the Day: “A wierd situation that shocked us all. There was some poor decision-making however the response is strange.
“I’ve always felt that our referees try to do their best. There’s been a lot of poor performance and incompetence this season and that was the case today.”
