Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles is predicted to be sidelined for between six and nine months after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) within the Magpies’ win over West Ham.
The 30-year-old was forced off within the seventeenth minute of the 4-3 victory and the injury was confirmed after consultation with a specialist defender and is predicted to undergo surgery next week.
An announcement from Newcastle read: “Newcastle United can confirm that club captain Jamaal Lascelles suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Saturday’s victory over West Ham United.
“After consulting a specialist, he is expected to undergo surgery next week and will be sidelined for 6-9 months. Everyone at #NUFC sends Jamaal’s best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.”
Lascelles has appeared in 26 games for Newcastle in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.
He signed for the Magpies in August 2014 and earlier this month celebrated his 250th appearance for Newcastle and prolonged his stay at St James’ Park until June 2025 after the club prolonged the captain’s contract by a yr.
Tino Livramento and Miguel Almiron were also injured against the Hammers.
