According to a source who worked on the TV special, Matthew Perry was “sweet,” “sally” and “laughing between takes” while filming the “Friends” reunion.
Speaking with The Post ahead of the one-year anniversary of Perry’s death, the insider recalled how funny and kind Perry was behind the scenes of the 2021 reunion.
“He was so cute and crazy,” the source said.
“Matthew was laughing between takes. He was so grateful to be a part of the special and it was happening.
The insider added that Perry was “being his usual goofy self the whole time, and he made everyone working on the show feel as normal as possible about who he and his cast members are”.
The love and affection shared by Perry and her “Friends” co-stars was evident to the crew and production crew. “He’s been so appreciative of his cast members” they’ve said the same sweet things about him, so you know their love and bond was genuine,” the insider said.
And Perry’s friends were by her side even when the cameras weren’t rolling. According to sources, at one point during taping, Perry was laying on the couch between takes, exhausted from emergency dental surgery a few days earlier. Apparently seeing this and wanting to help a friend in need, David Schwimmer got up, sat down next to Perry on the couch and wrapped his arm around her.
“It was a testament to how loved and bonded they all were with each other,” the source said.

“They did all kinds of things,” the actor told Sawyer. “Dental surgery made my mouth feel like it was on fire and it sounded like my voice was gone,” he said, addressing fans who were worried about his slurred speech after watching the special.
“And I couldn’t show up. So what I chose to do was to go and do my best.
“Friends” celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and the 20th anniversary of its finale.
Perry died on October 28, 2023, at his home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. He was 54 years old.
An autopsy performed by the Los Angeles County Coroner revealed that she died of a ketamine overdose. The report listed the manner of death as accidental drowning.
In August, U.S. attorneys indicted five people they allege were involved in the purchase and distribution of ketamine to Perry.
Three people — Perry’s assistant, a doctor who helped the actor obtain the ketamine and a man who acted as a “go-between” for obtaining the drug — have pleaded guilty and are the feds. Cooperating with Two others, the so-called “Ketamine Queen” of LA and Dr. Salvador Plasencia, are facing charges.
