If life imitates art, you may expect an absolute wave of reddish-blond hair and tons of blunt bangs this summer. Although the exact setting and plot details of the film directed by Kogonada are currently top secret – no only described as “an imaginative story about two strangers and the emotional journey that connects them” – the first have a look at Robbie’s hairstyle and costume suggests that it is a contemporary costume. Photos taken in Los Angeles show her with an extended, red hairstyle and part of her hair combed halfway. Soft but blunt bangs frame her face and mix with several longer layers.

As with most filmed projects, it’s hard to say needless to say whether Robbie had an actual dye job for the role or if she’s just wearing the perfect wig. However, it is clear how natural the strawberry color looks on her. Typically, the producer-actor is a light-weight, buttery blonde, and this new shade is just a couple of degrees different, accentuated with warm, golden-red tones. Not only does Robbie appear like she was born with this color, however it seems to be the hottest trend for spring and summer. Strawberry blonde and its deeper sister shade, rose gold, have been described as highly wanted as the weather warms up. Alexis Yoshico, a colorist at Jerome Lordet Salon in New York, previously told TZR that these softer, hybrid colours are displacing more vibrant, single-color alternatives. “It’s a hair color you can enjoy even when it starts to grow out,” Yoshico explains. It may even be adjusted to a lighter or darker shade depending on the season.
Time will tell if Robbie’s color is real, however it doesn’t really matter – an aesthetic change that makes for a fun experience that is at all times welcome.
