Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story And Will and Harper are tied for best documentary at the 2024 Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards on Sunday night.
The first film won in all six categories in which it was nominated.
Apart from the excellent documentation feature, Super/humanabout the actor who played the Man of Steel and his advocacy for disability awareness after being paralyzed in a tragic accident won Best Director (Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui), Best Editing (Otto Burnham); ), won the award for Best Score (Ilan Eshkeri). Best Archival Documentary and Best Biographical Documentary.
sugarcaneWhich received the most nominations this year with eight, winning two awards for Best Political Documentary and Best True Crime Documentary. The Last of the Sea Women And Simon Biles Rising Also won two awards. The first film, which counts Malala Yousafzai among its producers, won Best Cinematography (Iris Ng, Eunson Choo and Justin Turkowski) and Best Science/Nature Documentary. Simon Biles Rising Won Best Sports Doc and Best Limited Documentary.
daughtersNatalie Rae and Angela Patton won the award for best new documentary filmmakers. Steve! (Martin) A documentary in 2 parts Won Best Narrative for Steve Martin’s writing and performance.
Additionally, The biggest night in pop won Best Historical Documentary; Music by John Williams won Best Music Documentary; And 30 for 30 Awarded Best Ongoing Documentary Series.
In addition to the competitive awards, Rory Kennedy received the Pennebaker Award, named for DA Pennebaker and presented by Pennebaker’s longtime colleague and widower, Chris Hegedus.
The ninth annual Critics’ Choice Awards were presented Sunday night at New York’s Edison Ballroom. The event, hosted by Erich Bergen, was also streamed live on YouTube, X and Facebook. Presenters and guests include Ron Howard, Chelsea Clinton, Amanda Zuraski, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, Jeremy Piven, Bridget Moynihan, Lorraine Toussaint, Michael Cyril Creighton, Daphne Ruben Vega, Ali Wentworth, RJ Cutler, Lauren Greenfield, Lee Andrew Cain, Leung, Chai Vasarhelyi and Marc Shiman.
