In our series First run, TZR editors and authors test the most well-liked recent cosmetic products and share their honest reviews. This week, deputy beauty editor Erin Lukas puts buzzies to the test YSL Beauty LoveShine lip oil stick.
It’s an all-too-common tale: Your signature scent or favorite shade of nail polish you have been wearing for years is discontinued. The excellent news is that these products are frequently heavily discounted, so you possibly can top off and use your supplies until they expire. It’s a tragedy for the sweetness industry, nevertheless it’s not the worst-case scenario. What is more disturbing is that a staple product in your every day weight loss plan doesn’t turn out to be a cause, but as a substitute receives an improved formula. Sure, you possibly can still buy it, but suddenly it is not… the identical. Yes, it’s all very dramatic. But understandably, you construct an emotional bond with a product when your relationship with it lasts many years. Although I even have experienced this exact scenario up to now, I cannot relate to the YSL Beauty LoveShine Lip Oil Stick.
A brand new, improved version of the long-lasting Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick Balm, this product puts other lip oils to shame. As an enormous fan of the unique, I took a take a look at the improved formula last fall and got my hands on just a few shades as soon as they launched this month. Read on to get my honest thoughts on LoveShine and why it’s quickly becoming my favorite lip product.

Formula
True to its name, this lip product consists of 60% nourishing oils for a fair and smooth glide. An additional injection of hydration and soothing is provided by fig pulp. YSL sourced this hero ingredient from the Ourika community garden in Marrakech, where a cooperative of Berber women harvests and maintains local crops to be used within the brand’s products.
In addition to the skin advantages of a typical tinted lip oil, LoveShine uniquely offers the colour payoff of a standard satin lipstick. That’s why the brand claims that the hybrid product is an “oil-infused lipstick.” The 20-shade range covers every possible option you’d want in your on a regular basis lipstick collection, from peachy nude to vibrant fuchsia.

My experience and results
My first encounter with LoveShine was during Paris Fashion Week in September, when the brand gave several editors (including me) a product preview ahead of its spring 2024 launch, which included a makeup application by YSL Global Beauty Director Tom Pecheux. The makeup artist is a legend in the sweetness industry and has done makeup on everyone from Princess Diana to Kate Moss to Dua Lipa. Since he’s been rocking Moss’ iconic smoky eye repeatedly because the ’90s, I asked him to do a version on me to see how the lipstick handled daring eye makeup since I never do it myself. He went with 44 Nude Lavalliere, a soft pink nude shade that complemented my smudged eyeliner perfectly when applied with a lip brush. Since it was a preview, I did not have a single bead to take with me to the dinner and party I attended to rejoice YSL’s MYSLF fragrance. Despite the high shine and oily feel on the lips, it lasted all night long. It lost a few of the shine, however the pigment was still there and my lips didn’t feel dry and flaky.
Fast forward to the launch of LoveShine in early April and I selected a rather bolder pink. Shade 209 Pink Desire has a warm tone and a little bit of shine. It adds extra shine to my otherwise natural, on a regular basis makeup because it makes my face look brighter and awake, even without looking too daring.
Is YSL Beauty’s LoveShine lip oil stick value it?
Ease of application, range of possible shades and long-lasting hydration are the the reason why I even have been reaching for a tube of LoveShine for several weeks. It gets major points for acting as a solid balm. Instead of juggling the paw-shaped applicator and the tube in my hands, I can swipe it across my lips in a single go without looking within the mirror. The only downside is that it’s a bit expensive in comparison with other lip oils. However, it offers the colour of a satin lipstick and the silver bullet is elegant. And I’m all for adding a little bit of luxury to my day.
