A job well done.
Kate Middleton has been awarded a special honor by King Charles in recognition of her “overwhelming responsibilities”.
On Tuesday, the 75-year-old monarch honored his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales, with a special honor for her years of hard work and loyal service to the Crown.
The title, Royal Companion of the Order of Companions of Honour, is the first honor bestowed on a member of the royal family in its century-old history.
The gesture will no doubt come as a welcome surprise to the princess, especially given the difficult start to the year that saw her undergo stomach surgery and a subsequent cancer diagnosis.
Mehboob Shahi is undergoing treatment for her cancer. In March, she revealed that she was undergoing chemotherapy.
Middleton, 42, is now one of a select few to hold the prestigious title, joining the likes of JK Rowling, Dame Judi Dench and Sir Elton John.
The title was founded by King George V in 1917, and was created to recognize outstanding achievements in the arts, sciences and public service.
The mother-of-three, who is a patron of the Royal Photographic Society and the National Portrait Gallery, was also praised for her continued support and contribution to the arts.
Middleton, like most members of the royal family, has been forced to take on an increased workload following the sudden departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who stepped down as royals in 2020.
Since stepping down as senior working members of the firm and moving high across the pond, the Duke of Sussex has given up his British residency.
Middleton wasn’t the only royal to receive an award on Tuesday.
Middleton’s husband and heir to the throne, Prince William, was appointed Grand Master of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath – a title held by his own father during his time as Prince of Wales.
This honour, instituted by King George I in 1725, is awarded to only a select few members of the military or civil service.
Elsewhere, Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, was also the recipient of a prestigious honour.
Camilla was made Grand Master of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross.
The long – and glittering – title is a traditional designation for a monarch’s spouse, having previously belonged to Prince Philip, who was given the title by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Before Philip, Queen Mary was given the title by her husband King George V during his reign as Prince of Wales.
The Order of the British Empire was founded in 1917 by George V, and honors distinguished services in both military and civilian society.
