New court documents reveal that Mavis Leno, Jay Leno’s wife, “sometimes does not know her husband or date of birth” as she continues to battle Alzheimer’s disease.
The affidavit, filed by Mavis’ court-appointed attorney, Robert Ostrin, was filed in Los Angeles as an update to an earlier petition looking for to permit Leno, 73, to create a conservatorship for Mavis because of her diagnosis of an “advanced illness.” dementia.”
According to the report that was obtained by PeopleMavis is “very confused” and “will be thinking about her parents who are dead and her mother who died about 20 years ago.”
Ostrin also stated that although “it was clear she had a cognitive impairment,” Mavis, 77, is a “wonderful person” with a “charming personality.”
This can also be clear from the documents Lena and Mavis – who’ve been married since 1980 and don’t have any children – have a “long-term, loving and supportive” relationship, and she considers the previous “Tonight Show” host “and trusts him.”
“SM. Leno seemed very happy in their cozy environment,” Ostrin said.
In the documents, Ostrin notes that Mavis has “no objection” and “consents” to the conservatorship, which Leno filed for in January after his wife’s diagnosis, which was news confirmed by TMZ.
Mavis’ neurologist, Dr. Hart Cohen, supported the choice to appoint Leno as conservator of his wife’s estate, noting that the previous host is “such a nice man and treats [Mavis] like gold.”
“Based on my contacts with Mr. Leno and the research I have done, this is a standard product,” Ostrin said. “And his private persona matches the public persona he projects.”
Earlier this 12 months, Leno spoke with Daily mail about his wife’s ongoing battle.
“She’s fine. We’re fine, we’re fine,” said the comedian behind the wheel of a vintage automobile.[I] make a will in case something happens.
He declined to elaborate further and gave a thumbs-up to the film crew before leaving.
Leno’s transient statement got here after they were spotted acting at the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California.
The pair smiled and waved to onlookers as they made their solution to the club where Leno had performed earlier within the day.
In the initial filing, the documents stated that “Mavis’ current condition prevents her from executing an estate plan.”
“Unfortunately, for several years Mavis has been gradually losing the ability and orientation in space and time,” doctors say. “Jay is fully capable of continuing to support Mavis’ physical and financial needs, as he has done throughout their marriage.”
A hearing to find out whether Leno will probably be included in his petition is scheduled for next week in Los Angeles. Mavis will not be required to attend because of “medical incapacity.”
