Jay Leno has officially been given custody of his wife Mavis Leno, who has been diagnosed with dementia.
Mavis’ lawyer said he “agrees” with the conservatorship during a Tuesday hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court. People reports. Mavis added that “her husband, Mr. Leno, gives her excellent care.”
“I think he is in the least restrictive environment,” the judge agreed. “I think she’s very well taken care of by Mr. Leno.”
The judge then told Leno, 73, “everything you’re doing is right” and “I completely understand that this is a difficult time.” He added that the TV personality “fits” the role.
The former “Tonight Show” host further added that he’s in the method of estate planning and reviewing his wife’s will.
Earlier this month, court documents revealed that Mavis, 77, “sometimes does not know her husband or date of birth” on account of health problems. The affidavit filed by Mavis’ court-appointed lawyer, Robert Ostrin, was filed in Los Angeles as an update to an earlier petition allowing Leno to function her conservator.
Additionally, the report explained that Mavis “is confused” and “will be reflecting on her parents, who died, and her mother, who died approximately 20 years ago.”
“Based on my contacts with Mr. Leno and the research I have done, this is a standard product,” Ostrin said. “And his private persona matches the public persona he projects.”
In January, Leno told the Daily Mail that he planned to write down her a will. “She’s fine. We’re fine, we’re fine,” the comedian said then.[I] make a will in case something happens.
The couple married in 1980 after meeting on the Comedy Store within the Seventies. They haven’t any children.
