Rodri admits he needs a break amid Manchester City’s intense fight for an unprecedented second consecutive treble.
The Spain international, who has not lost any of his last 66 games for club and country in over a yr, is crucial to City’s bid to make history.
But Pep Guardiola’s influential midfielder looked busy during Tuesday’s thrilling 3-3 Champions League draw with Real Madrid and admits the schedule is taking its toll.
The 27-yr-old said: “Anyone of us can do better, even me, but to be honest we need to rest.
“I do. I need rest. Let’s see how we speak, how we live in this situation. Sometimes it is what it is.
“I have to adapt. Yes, it (rest) is something we are planning.”
Guardiola may subsequently make some changes ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with relegation-threatened Luton as he plans to face Real Madrid in the second leg next Wednesday.
However, with just a point between the top three in the domestic competition, there’s little margin for error for third-placed City.
Rodri felt the defenders showed their character as they recovered from a 2-1 half-time deficit to take the lead on a fascinating evening at the Bernabeu Stadium.
Bernardo Silva’s early strike was thwarted by a Ruben Dias own goal and a Rodrygo try, but the English team responded with stunning strikes from Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol.
However, Real could have had the last word when Federico Valverde equalized with a late volley to make sure a close begin to the second half of the quarter-final.
“Honestly, we showed our mentality to come back,” Rodri said. “To play against them and come back with those goals sums up the mentality of the champions we are.
“It was a good result for us in terms of the course of the match and everything is open. It’s one game at home now and we are very strong there.
Last year, City drew at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of the semi-final before thrashing the Spanish giants 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium to reach the final.
“Of course we can recreate it,” said Rodri, a former Atletico Madrid player. “We understand how strong we’re in our home.
“The most vital thing was that we knew that whatever happened, it would not end, even when we won or lost. We have a draw, the same result as last season.
“It’s a good result by way of the mood in the team. We found spaces in the second half, did great and now we move on to Manchester. If we copy the first 20-half-hour of the second half here, it’s going to be difficult for them.
