King Charles III and his niece Zara Tindall just broke royal protocol.
The monarch, 75, and Zara, 42, embraced on Friday at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in Berkshire, England.
King Charles had a smile on his face as his niece hugged the monarch in a public affair, technically defying the royal family’s strict protocol.
The king wore a large gray trench coat over a white button-down shirt with a green and blue striped tie.
Zara wore a dark gray jacket and styled her blonde hair in a short ponytail.
Her parents are Princess Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and Mark Phillips.
Zara and her older brother Peter Phillips were not given HRH titles by their mother so they could have a more normal childhood.
King Charles’ appearance at the Royal Windsor Horse Show marks his third engagement since resuming his royal duties earlier this week amid his cancer diagnosis.
News of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis broke in February when he underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate. There, doctors discovered a “separate problem of concern” that needed treatment.
Buckingham Palace later clarified that the cancer was not prostate cancer.
King Charles, who is currently receiving outpatient treatment, broke his silence on the shocking diagnosis on February 11.
He said in a statement: “It is equally gratifying to hear how sharing my own assessment has helped to promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all these organizations in the UK and the wider world. I help cancer patients and their families.”
King Charles recently spoke about his health issues with fellow cancer patients during a visit to the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Center on Tuesday.
“It’s always a bit of a shock, isn’t it, when they tell you?” King Charles, on learning of his diagnosis, said, per The Times of London.
He was also heard saying, “I have to get my treatment this afternoon as well.”
On 26 April, the palace confirmed that King Charles would resume his public duties despite suffering from cancer.
“His Majesty the King will soon return to public duties following his recent cancer diagnosis and treatment and recovery,” a brief statement from the palace said.
The palace also confirmed that King Charles and his wife Queen Camilla will host a state dinner for the Emperor and Empress of Japan in June.
