Usher is the proud owner of many desirable watches from the likes of Rolex, Breitling, Panerai, Audemars Piguet and Cartier. But for the 2024 Met Gala, the Super Bowl halftime performer decided to make a serious splash by wearing something never seen before.
Dressed in a custom Alexander McQueen look (complete with cape), Usher Jacob & Co. Billionaire III ‘Rubies,’ a Unique piece It has 714 emeralds and baguette-cut stones totaling 147.65 carats. Housed in a rectangular white gold case, every possible facet is studded with jewels—to the point that the entire watch is positively shines Dreamed by Pink Jacob & Co As a diamond-encrusted watch by founder Jacob Arabo in the 2010s, it features a stunning, skeletal JCAM 39 hand-wound caliber with a tourbillon and ultra-thin bridges, which are in turn set with rubies. .
With its one-minute tourbillon, 167 components, and 72-hour power reserve, it’s not lacking in a movement, and the jewel-set, white gold bridges can stop even watch nerds dead in their tracks. Designed to disappear beneath the glow of its ruby adornment, it nevertheless provides an impressive horological display. skill. Meanwhile, the setting of the gems extends beyond the watch case and bezel into the entire integrated bracelet, creating a practically smooth surface of pink stones. An unabashed sign of wealth and status, it’s par for the course. Jacob & CoIts bold designs are often seen on the wrists of actors, athletes and other cultural figures.
(For other notable recent Jacob & Co wonders, check out Lana Del Rey’s jaw-dropping Fleurs de Jordan, or the wild flying tourbillon choker and $400K ankle watch both worn by Rihanna.)
With a price tag of $5 million, the Billionaire III ‘Rubies’ is definitely not for the faint of heart, wrist, or wallet — in fact, the Met Gala is possibly the only place such a piece is so plentiful. Can feel comfortable to wear. Security exists. But Boy, did it cut through the sea of dress-watch combinations like a knife through butter, separating Usher (and his wrist) from the more pedestrian fare. To be sure, regardless of your personal taste and preferences, this was a watch for the ages.
Chopard LUC XPS by John Mullaney
On his new Netflix series Everyone is in LA.A ’70s-inspired spin on the classic American talk show — by John Milney Chopard LUC XPS. Mullaney is wearing a rotating cast of timepieces at the show, truly demonstrating his versatility as a collector. This Chopard is particularly special: a 40mm dress watch in white gold, applied to the LUC XPS, features white gold indexes, a matching handset, and a black dial with a sub-seconds display at 6 o’clock, all chronometers. Certified, automatic movement with micro-rotor, visible through sapphire caseback. It’s a nice, unusual watch for the mostly underdog — and a much better value than the $12,000 Rolex he once infamously flipped for $6,000. Fortunately, Mulaney didn’t take it to sell your watch in NYC yet.
Tommy Hilfiger’s Rolex Daytona Le Mans
Rounding out the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, none other than American fashion royalty Tommy Hilfiger was spotted in the (recently discontinued) Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ‘Le Mans’. Made for about five and a half minutes in 2023, Ref. 126529LN was truly created to honor 100 years of driving. Really I quickly Le Mans, France, and featured – unsurprisingly, given Rolex’s general reticence to produce vintage-inspired pieces – callbacks to past “Paul Newman” Daytonas, including the “exotic” dials of these watches. The strange typography of as seen in the Chronograph Toolizer. Other special features include white gold construction, “100” tachymeter text in red, and a higher selling price than the 911 GT3.
Ed Sheeran’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
The “Thinking Out Loud” singer rocked her bestie John Mayer’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak at both the Miami Grand Prix and the Met Gala last week, reinforcing the common horological aphorism that “those who wear a timepiece together , they end up on GQ.com together.” (or something else) Rather, we should say that it rocked John Mayer’s watch Designed Contributed by the best people at AP – one of only 200 pieces. Made of white gold, it features a perpetual calendar mechanism with weekly date indicators against a luminous blue dial surface. One of AP QP’s most beautiful executions, this is one of the finest entries in the long and storied history of the Royal Oak collection.
Max Verstappen’s Tag Heuer Formula 1 Keith
It took hotshot driver Max Verstappen all day to appear with Oracle Red Bull Formula 1 team sponsor TAG Heuer’s new Formula 1 Keith Watch. (Or a version of it, anyway, here are 10 different colorways.) Limited to several hundred pieces each, depending on the edition, these fun and colorful 35mm quartz watches are the original TAG Heuer Formula 1 watches from 1986. Celebrating—which encouraged. Keith’s founder Ronnie Feig would start collecting watches. Decades later, Feig teamed up with TAG Heuer to launch his own take on Formula 1, with a cool dial signature that reads both “Kith” and “Heuer.” At $1,500, they’re not quite a great buy, but they’re certainly extremely compelling—and they’re sure to appear on the wrists of sneakerheads (and F1 drivers) everywhere soon.
