Freddie Highmore decided to return to his own Charlie and the Chocolate Factory But the legendary factory felt less like a chocolate wonderland and more like a failed fan experience.
During the actor’s recent appearance in Jimmy Kimmel Live!jokingly debuted in the trailer Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Part Twothrough which Charlie Bucket gives two children a tour of the candy factory he got from Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka in the 2005 film.
“Hi kids! My name is Charlie Bucket and welcome to my chocolate factory,” Highmore said as the green screen behind him lowered to disclose a sparsely decorated constructing that was harking back to the now infamous Willy Wonka-themed immersion in the UK that supposedly left the kids behind in tears. – Pretty sweet, huh? – the actor added in the clip.
As Highmore continued on the tour with the children, they eventually encountered an Oompa Loompa who offered them “delicious meth”, a reference to folks who compared the Glasgow fan attraction to a meth lab.
Later in the film, a girl wearing a black cloak and a silver mask, whom the actor named the Nameless One, jumped out and scared the children. “I’m relieved you can see her too,” Highmore whispered under his breath, quickly pushing the children past.
When one child complained that the chocolate factory “didn’t look like the pictures,” Highmore explained that he had created the flyers using the artificial intelligence program ChatGPT – one other reference to a botched fan event that took place earlier this yr. during which the organizers apparently used Artificial Intelligence to generate high-quality promotional images depicting the experience.
“Everything here was created by ChatGPT,” Highmore exclaimed, before beginning to sing a song that appeared to be his own AI-generated song. “Candy is good / Candy is in the mouth / Candy is fun / And we love imagination!”
When two of the children seemed disillusioned by their experience at the chocolate factory, with one even calling it “sad”, Highmore admitted that business had not been so good since Willy Wonka gave him the keys to the kingdom.
“I’ll level with you kids: the factory never really took off after Wonka gave it to me,” the actor said. “I used to be 10 years old! I did my best but I overdid it and with all that said I’d say take a look at this place! I did quite well. The screen then showed photos from the controversial immersive event in the UK.
Finally, when Highmore revealed that the children had won his chocolate factory, they didn’t seem very amused, and one said, “Let’s kill him,” before attacking the actor with plastic candy cane props.
The video ended on a note that the film was showing in “abandoned theaters everywhere.”
