Arkansas experienced a staggering average financial loss from phishing scams of $80,318 per capita, a 2,609% increase from 2018. Per capita assaults with only 3.67 assaults per 100,000 residents. So while Arkansas experiences fewer phishing attacks than the average US state, its losses are six times higher than the national average.
The state with the second highest losses from phishing scams is New Hampshire with an average loss of $47,477. Not surprisingly, this was a major contributing factor to why New Hampshire is one of the worst-affected states in the country by fishing scams — even for Nevada, which was the worst with losses of $37,478. Number one as the most affected state.
Unlike New Hampshire and Nevada, DC wasn’t just among the states with the highest losses—it also had the highest number of phishing victims per capita. On top of that, DC also experienced the highest number of phishing attacks per capita with five times the number of phishing schemes per capita compared to the national average. This shows that the capital of the country is a target of phishing scams.
On the other hand, while North Dakota had the 10th-highest average losses for phishing at $24,010 — nearly double the national average — it experienced half the number of phishing attacks per capita as the average state. It also has a lower than national average rate of phishing victims per capita. So, while residents of the Peace Garden State do not experience large-scale phishing scams or have a large number of victims, statistically, in the rare cases where they do fall victim, they do. Chances of losing more money than average.
