Sinead Farrelly has retired from international football after a year as part of the Republic of Ireland squad.
The United States-born midfielder made his debut in April 2023 and played eight games in total, including all three 2023 World Cup group matches and three Nations League fixtures.
The 34-year-old, who qualified for the Republic of Ireland through her Cavan-born father, plays for NJ/NY Gotham in the National Women’s Soccer League – the top tier of women’s sport in the US.
“It is with great sadness that I have taken the difficult decision to retire from international football,” Ferrelli said.
“I’d like to thank Vera Pau and Elaine Gleeson, all the backroom and support staff, every player I’m proud to call a team-mate and of course the amazing Irish supporters who welcomed me with open arms. What did
“Playing for Ireland was a dream come true and an experience I will always remember.
“I got to play in the World Cup but more than that I got to play for this country and I’m very grateful for this opportunity because it’s the biggest honor of my career.”
Republic of Ireland manager Elaine Gleeson thanked Farrelly for his efforts and wished him “the best in his future career”.
