On Easter Sunday, Everton’s funds got here under the microscope again when a loss for the 2022-23 season was revealed, which was almost double compared to the previous yr.
Accounts released through the high-profile Premier League clash between Manchester City and Arsenal show the Toffees lost £89.1m, up from £44.7m within the 2021-22 season.
The club cited the indefinite suspension of sponsorship agreements with key business partners as a way to mitigate increased losses.
The publication of the financial statements, which also show large investments within the club’s recent stadium, doesn’t encourage optimism at a time when the club’s funds are under scrutiny.
The Toffees are due to hear a verdict by April 8 on a second charge of breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules, with the likelihood of further points being deducted on top of the six they’ve already lost for breaches relating to the 2021-22 season.
Everton are currently sixteenth within the Premier League table with 25 points, three above the relegation zone.
Short majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri said earlier this week he was confident that the club’s protracted takeover by 777 Partners would soon be accomplished.
They are due to move to a brand new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock for the 2025–26 season.
