Model and gossip girl Star and heretic Breakout is set to join Kevin Costner and Daniel Zovato in the film, due to begin shooting in January. Cinematographer Steven Holleran will make his feature directorial debut in this film based on an idea. He and Costner then collaborated on the script, which has been described as a mash-up that combines “the kinetic energy of surf culture with the suspense of horror”.
Head Hunters Costner stars as Lazarus, a washed-up American ex-pat with a mysterious past who finds himself living in Bali, Indonesia. Lazar recruits a group of surfers led by Bima, a local photographer, on a trip to an uncharted island to embark on a “perfect wave”. To their surprise, the island is home to an ancient clan of headhunters protecting the land at all costs. “The resulting adventure is a survival story of epic and gory proportions on a tropical island that once seemed like paradise… but is actually close to hell,” according to the official logline.
Costner is also producing through his Territory Pictures with Scott Steindorff and his Stone Village films. In addition to Costner and Steindorff, Costner’s partner on the film is Territory Pictures’ Howard Kaplan, and Stone Village’s Dylan Russell, Lindsay Davis and Stacey Woods are taking co-producer credits with Gina Ajlouni. Eric Hayes is on board as a physical producer. Their team is rounded out by cinematographer Erickson Kaur, production design by Derek Hill and costume design by Lisa Lowas.
