The Premier League has yet to see the true Enzo Fernandez, the Chelsea midfielder has said, admitting he has failed to find his best form following an enormous-money move to the English club in 2023.
Chelsea, which spent over £400 million bringing in 13 latest players last 12 months, has struggled to maintain consistent form this season.
Argentine midfielder Fernandez, who signed for Benfica in January 2023 for £106 million, was disappointing and failed to rediscover the shape he showed at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“I’m trying to get there, to that version of me that you saw at the World Cup. I want to feel like Enzo, who played in the World Cup,” Fernandez said in an interview published on the club’s website on Wednesday.
“I want to go back there. I feel good, it’s getting better every day, but I still don’t feel like I’m 100 percent.
“I’m still adjusting and I still don’t feel completely like myself, but I’m trying to get there as quickly as possible and I’m working hard every day to get there.”
Despite struggling within the league, Chelsea were still able to finish the season with silver medals, reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
“We are all trying to do our best, every single one of us. We can still win the trophy this season,” Fernandez said.
“We are in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City and we believe in this group, the coaching staff and everything they bring to every training session and every match.”
Chelsea, in ninth place, will next host Everton within the league ahead of their FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City on April 20.
