You’d think he’d wish to walk back Jungle cruise Or Black Adam. Instead, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson expresses some regret over his support for Joe Biden for president in 2020 and says he won’t support any candidate this 12 months.
“The support I gave to Biden many years ago was the best decision for me at the time,” he said. Will Cain on Fox News in an interview published online Friday. “I assumed, ‘I’m in a situation where I even have some influence, and I felt it was my job to exert influence.’ [and] share: This is who I’m going to support. I’m not going to do this. I used to be the most well-liked man on the earth then, and I’m today, and I appreciate it… however it caused something that tore me apart – division. This caught me. I didn’t understand it on the time, I just felt there was a whole lot of anxiety and I wanted every little thing to calm down.
He continued: “The takeaway afterwards was incredibly divisive. Now I realize that going into this election, I won’t do that. My goal is to unite this country. I believe it. There will be no support. At this level of influence, I will keep my politics to myself. This is between me and the ballot box. But I will tell you this: Like many of us, while not trusting all politicians, I truly trust the American people and whoever they vote for is my president and who I will support 100 percent.”
Asked if he was satisfied with the state of America, Johnson replied: “No.”
“Today’s cancel culture, woke culture, divisiveness, etc. – it really pisses me off,” he added. “In that spirit, you either give in and be who other people want you to be, or you can be yourself and be real… and that might upset people and piss people off, and that’s okay.”
Johnson was also asked once again if he ever planned to run for president, to which the actor replied: “No, that’s not my intention. I’m not a politician.”
In 2020, Johnson made headlines by sitting with Biden and Kamala Harris and announcing his endorsement, a message promoted by Biden’s campaign.
“As a long-time registered independent with centrist ideologies, I truly believe that Vice President Biden and Senator Harris are the best choices to lead our country, and I support them to be the president and vice president of our United States,” he said. “Progress requires courage, humanity, empathy, strength, kindness and respect.”
Johnson’s comments come after his return to WrestleMania 40, WWE’s flagship event.
While it’s unclear how much celebrity endorsements matter, The Rock’s lack of approval is not excellent news for Team Biden as they prepare for a rematch with Donald Trump in November. The statement follows much speculation about whether one other major star would renew her support for Biden – Taylor Swift, who also endorsed Biden in 2020, has yet to precise her support this 12 months.
