Dan Stevens, who had a memorable performance in Adam Wingard’s thriller, is reuniting with the filmmaker for his new action thriller.
Adria Arjuna stars in the feature, which is produced by A24 along with Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company. Shooting begins in November in New Mexico.
The feature is already re-watching the filmmaker with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two wrote cult hits and the latter was a major step into Hollywood for Stevens, who was known for his work on the popular British series at the time.
A lot of details are kept in the underground experimental facility, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller.
Arjuna stars as a mother who falls back on a certain set of skills to protect her loved ones after a dangerous escape from a secret military base. Pereira will play a character called The Butcher, and will bring her collection of skills – including anaconda chokes and roundhouse kicks – to her sweet role.
In what looks like a chewable supporting role, Stevens will play a German scientist working on leftover experiments.
Aaron Ryder and Andrew Sweet will produce alongside A24 under their Ryder Pictures company banner. Also producing is Alexander Blake for Lyrical Media. Wingard and manager Jeremy Platt will also develop their new shingle Breakaway Civilization with Barrett.
Lyrical and A24 will co-finance, with A24 releasing worldwide. Lyrical’s Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers will serve as executive producers with A24.
Stevens has 2024 full of genres. He previously reteamed with Wingard, which grossed $571 million worldwide when it was released in March. He was previously part of the ensemble of Universal’s vampire thriller and starred in the summer horror flick Neon.
The actor is repped by CAA and UK’s Julian Belfrage Associates.
