The interview comprises spoilers from the series finale Curb your enthusiasm.
Larry David’s days of terrorizing Brentwood are over. Sunday Curb your enthusiasm the series finale drew the curtain on 12 seasons of misanthropic misfortunes – and as expected, the real Larry ended the whole affair by organizing a rerun of the series his most up-to-date and divisive TV series finale.
Below, longtime co-writer/executive producer and director Jeff Schaffer and day one Curb your enthusiasm co-star Susie Essman – who plays Larry’s poetically profane, sartorial and ambitious friend Susie Greene – get together to speak about the big Seinfeld the plot, the punchline that Larry and Jerry got here up with on the spot, and how sentimental the bald guy is about an almost 25-year labor of love coming to an end.
How do you are feeling about the reactions to the finale thus far?
Susie Essman: I do not read any reviews or anything, but my friends like it. I get lots of good text messages.
Jeff Schaffer: I watched the show with Larry yesterday and he was completely satisfied. I feel “content” is the right word. It was satisfying. Thanks to editing, we have watched this episode billions of times. But there’s something about seeing it like everyone else. This makes it seem real. And I feel people liked it. I’m really completely satisfied. I’m also glad we do not have to cover what we did anymore.
SE: No more lies and deception.
Well, up thus far, I do not know in the event you’ve seen, but we actually posted an article here where I predicted that is exactly what you’d do around the second or third week.
JS: That was you?
It was. Sorry.
JS: No, no. It was article. I remember reading this and considering: Oh, you are ready for this. So wait, let me ask you a matter. So when Larry was in jail doing the pants tent, once we began backing out…did you’re thinking that that may be the end?
Yes, I assumed that was it. I just watched it again Seinfeld final and I assumed: Okay, it’s the same camera retraction…And then the twist really surprised me.
JS: Great. That was exactly the point. Once we realized we were going to do that story, we went back to the episodes and began planning some things around it Seinfeld final, like Ted [Danson] I confer with Larry about it and stuff like that. We left breadcrumbs, but I do not think we realized that once we even mentioned the word “try,” all of us [would start] give it some thought. At first we thought, “Oh, shoot. We didn’t hide our hand well enough.” But then we realized very quickly This is great. Let everyone think about this – let everyone think that they are making jokes in slow motion over the course of nine episodes.
Larry David zig-zagged the ending of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Larry David once again ends his popular comedy series in the courtroom, this time with a twist.
So when did you select this was what you desired to do? And in a way, was it almost an exorcism for Larry to return back to this thing that divided us and approach it again?
