Conan O’Brien did his thing Today’s performance back on Tuesday, and he and host Jimmy Fallon reminisced about O’Brien’s time on NBC’s late-night shows.
The comedian was the host Late night for 16 seasons, from 1993 to 2009, before a brief tenure in Today’s program from 2009 to 2010.
“It’s weird coming back,” O’Brien told Fallon during his final appearance. “I haven’t been in this building in so long and I haven’t been on this floor in forever.”
He added: “I spent 16 years here doing this Late night performance before I left for Los Angeles and across the hall – all those memories got here flooding back to me. O’Brien later joked that it was weird seeing other sets inbuilt his show’s former studio.
Earlier in the conversation, Fallon also noted that O’Brien was his first talk show appearance. The host began showing his photo as a guest Late night with O’Brien in 1999, adding, “I was honored to be on your show.”
O’Brien’s sudden departure from NBC Today’s program stays one among the most memorable nights out. Although Jay Leno has passed Tonight approaching O’Brien, the station began scheduling a brand new show with Leno in the same time slot. When O’Brien left after just seven months at the helm, Leno returned to the hosting role until 2014, when Fallon took over.
During his memorable final performance Tonight in 2019, he noted that the NBC show fulfilled his lifelong dream. He also added during his monologue: “I just want to tell the kids watching this: You can do anything you would like in life. Unless Jay Leno wants to do it too.
