“The Talk” is winding down its daytime long talk show.
The CBS talk show will end in December after 15 seasons, the network announced Friday.
“The Talk” was created by actor Sarah Gilbert from the idea of a group of female hosts who talk about hot topics and current events, similar to ABC’s “The View.” Gilbert said in a 2011 interview with The Associated Press that it was based on an actual group of her “mom friends” who would gather to chat. He liked the idea of ”a motley crew that you would never really put together, but then suddenly it’s all in common.”
The show debuted in 2010 with Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Leah Remini and Holly Robinson as hosts. Marisa Jarrett Winoker was added as a roving reporter who would be in the field. After the first season there was a hosting shakeup. Winoker’s position was eliminated, and Peete and Robinson were replaced by Sheryl Underwood and Aisha Tyler.
“The Talk” would undergo several hosting changes during its run. In 2018, Chen left the show after her husband, then-CBS Corp. boss Les Moonves, was fired. Because of allegations of sexual abuse. Gilbert left her on camera post in 2019. But an executive producer remains. Osborne’s departure in 2021 Osborne and Underwood made headlines after a heated on-air debate about racism.
Underwood is the only person from the early days of “The Talk” who is still on the show today. She sits alongside Natalie Morales, Amanda Clotes, Jerry O’Connell and Akbar Gabjabiamila.
In a joint statement released by CBS, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios President David Stiff said: “It goes without saying that hosting and producing a year-round talk show is no easy feat. No work.” He expressed his “sincere thanks” to the hosts, producers and crew, and to “former hosts and colleagues of the show who have contributed throughout the season.”
The 11-time Daytime Emmy winner is airing its 14th season, which ends in June. Its final 15th season will premiere in the fall.
