Talking about her decades-long profession, Carla Gugino revealed that she still suffers from “a little post-traumatic stress disorder” resulting from directors ignoring her on set because she was a girl.
During the last conversation with Game of Thrones star Lena Headey Interview magazine, Gerald’s game the actress recalled a few of her previous experiences with directors.
“I recently had a situation where I had to confess something important to me and I hesitated because I wondered whether it would be perceived as demanding. The difference at this age is that I will just force myself to do it. Ultimately, it was received positively,” Gugino said. “I still have a little PTSD from a career full of instances where you’re opposite a male actor and you say to the director, ‘Hey, how about we try this and this?’ and the director says, “I do not think so,” and two minutes later your fellow actor who is a supporter of yours says the exact same thing and the director says, “Great idea.”
Girls on the bus the actress added: “It’s real madness. This happens when there’s an alcoholic within the family and everybody thinks, “This person really has power.” It’s in that spirit. We’ll pretend this is not crazy behavior.
Elsewhere within the interview, Headey expressed similar toxic experiences, but stated that her perspective modified after talking to Monica Bellucci.
“She said, ‘Listen, just fucking ask for what you want. They will still call you a bitch because you are a woman. I thought that was true too,” Headey recalled. “There is still a boys club and always will be.”
However, each actresses, who’ve established skilled careers, concluded that so much has “changed” for the higher within the industry.
“Yes, I do see a profound difference,” he said Spy Kids alum added. “I believe we should also be given grace so that people can learn and change.”
