The Candy Man Star Tony Todd, who died on Wednesday after a long illness, is being remembered by his co-star Virginia Madsen.
The Oscar nominee, who played graduate student Helen Lyle who becomes the victim of Todd’s titular hook-handed killer while investigating urban legends in a Chicago housing project in the 1992 horror film, posted a series of posts on Instagram. Tribute to Todd with
Madsen initially shared one. Short video post After hearing the news of Todd’s death, she said she “didn’t know what to say” but called Todd her “beloved”.
“May you rest in sweetest power in heaven,” Madsen captioned a video. “The great actor Tony Todd has left us and is now an angel. As he was in life. More later but I can’t right now. I love you.”
In the video, she shared that she “just found out” but will “say more about my sweet Candyman.”
He later posted. A long title about Toddcalling him “a truly poetic man” with “a voice that made him easy to swoon over.”
“Thank you [Candyman director] Bernard Rose, we created a truly gothic romance,” he wrote. “This is why the film lives on. A gentle soul with deep knowledge of the arts.”
Madsen also praised Todd for interacting with strangers.
“He enjoyed the fans and was never shy when it came to approaching fans, wanting photos,” she wrote. “A rare actor who allowed himself to be exposed to public attention.”
He closed by referring to the film. “I’ll miss him dearly and hope he haunts me sometimes. But I won’t call him in the mirror!”
After praising Jordan Peele, who co-wrote and produced the 2021 sequel directed by Nia DeCosta, in which she and Todd appear, Madsen said she would like to share more of their story. I had a conversation.
