Seeing her because the “bad guy.”
Billie Eilish has hit back at Taylor Swift fans for “putting words in my mouth” after seemingly criticizing Swift for her lack of environmental awareness.
“Okay, it would be great if people would stop putting words in my mouth and actually read what I said in that billboard article,” the 22-year-old singer wrote in your Instagram story.
“I wasn’t singling out anyone, these are systemic problems throughout the industry,” Eilish added, saying she was also guilty of releasing multiple vinyl versions of her records in several packaging.
“As for variants, many artists release them, including myself, which I clearly state in the article,” she added. “The climate crisis is here and it’s about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better.”
In Billboard article, “What was I created for?” the singer appeared to sentence artists who participated within the growing practice of releasing multiple “vinyl variants.”
“We live in this day and age where, for some reason, it’s very important for some artists to create different types of vinyl and packaging,” she said. “[It] it increases sales and numbers and makes them more money and gives them more.”
The vinyl variant is a distinct pressing of the identical album with minor changes, whether it’s the colour, additional songs, and even the duvet art.
The presence of those changes also encourages die-hard fans to buy all possible variants.
“I can’t even express how wasteful this is,” said the two-time Oscar winner. “It’s right in front of our faces and people are getting away with it left and right.”
“It’s really frustrating for me as someone who really does my best to be sustainable and do my best, and also tries to engage everyone on my team in sustainability efforts – and they are it’s some of the biggest artists in the world that produces f—king 40 different wraps of vinyl that have a different, unique thing on them just to make you buy more.”
“It’s a waste and it annoys me that we’re still at the point where you care so much about your numbers and you care so much about making money,” Eilish continued. “And all your favorite artists are doing this s––t.”
Swift, 34, is well-known for releasing variations of her albums – she released eight different versions of her 2020 album “Folklore” and 4 from her latest album “Midnights.”
Olivia Rodrigo and Ariana Grande are also known for offering fans different versions of their albums.
Swifties didn’t like Eilish’s comments.
“I don’t understand why he’s attacking Taylor,” says considered one of the “Cruel Summer” singer’s fans he said on X (formerly Twitter). “I challenge you to prove yourself right and not release ANY physical copies of your album.”
“You don’t want to mess with Taylor Swift fans, you need to be smarter than that,” a second person added sent. “Any fan can cancel your music faster than you can blink.”
“We swifts should be offended by this! I don’t mind Taylor Swift’s #1 carbon rankings. But when it comes to vinyl variants, I draw the line at increasing our sales,” a 3rd fan decided. “LET’S FUCK THE KING OF TOLERANCE OF THIS BEHAVIOR, BILLIE EILISH!”
