Kaley Cuoco is facing backlash after she recalled the “painful decision” she made to rehome her beloved pet dog.
On Monday, Coco took to social media to explain her reasoning behind re-homing her dog while announcing her dog’s death.
“Most of you know I had. [Shirley] For many, many, many years,” Coco began in a video uploaded to Instagram.
“Suddenly, you stop seeing him, and I have so many questions about where he is, because it’s so unlike me to just stop posting about a puppy I’ve had since he was 6 weeks old. “Old man,” he continued.
Coco explained that Shirley’s “mega-fight” with her fiance Tom Pelfrey’s dog eventually led to the re-homing.
“Long story short, he is a very special dog to me, as you all know. And that’s when the love of my life came into my life, Tom, who is also a mega dog lover, with his beautiful German Shepherd, Blue. Together went across the country.
“A few years ago, unfortunately, Blue and Shirley started having some big fights,” Coco continued.
The Big Bang Theory star explained that Shirley was “determined to kill” Blue and things just kept getting worse.
“I loved him so much, but I was really scared. I didn’t want anything really bad to happen or for someone to possibly accidentally get in there and get hurt,” she said. The dog was rehomed with an animal handler, Tony and his wife Angie, who were helping to care for Shirley for him.
“They’ve loved it so much, and it was a tough decision,” she explained.
The actress then shared that Shirley recently died of “a very aggressive bone cancer.”
“She was almost 14 years old, which is an incredible life for a dog,” Koko said through tears. “And I just wanted to tell his story and what we had to do.”
After her confession, Coco faced backlash on social media from fans who were unhappy with her decision.
“If your boyfriend brought his child over to your house, would you give up his child or not if they didn’t get along?” wrote one. “There’s not a shot in hell I’d give my dog for any bf. Poor Shirley was never considered family. She was just a disposable animal!”
Another said: “One day he’ll be out of her life and she’ll regret the choice she made.”
“She’s prone to throwing her dog? Get lost, another commented, a fourth hit out: “Really? No, put his selfishness back home!
“There’s no way I’m leaving my dog for a new guy and his dog. Dumps the dog for a new guy and his dog.” wrote another. left? Why didn’t they put both dogs through a training/behavior program?
